We’re pleased to share that on May 3rd and 4th, our Varsity Quad crew achieved two solid wins at the Nantes Regatta, a leading event in the French university rowing calendar.

The crew, made up of:

  • Paolo Gregori (bow seat)
  • Tiziano Siniscalchi (BESS)
  • Gabriele Bettineschi (BAI)
  • Mario Guareschi (stroke, CLEAM)

performed consistently across both race days, facing strong competition from institutions such as Stuttgart University, Saarland University, ENAC, and Centrale Nantes. The event also featured prominent universities like HEC and ESCP in other categories.

On Saturday, racing over 1000 meters, the team finished with a 14-second lead, despite challenging river conditions.
In Sunday’s 500-meter sprint, Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique recorded the quickest qualifying time, but our crew responded well in the final, finishing three seconds ahead.

The team showed focus and cohesion throughout the regatta, adapting well to the weather conditions and maintaining steady performance.

These results mark an encouraging milestone for our developing rowing program, and offer a meaningful opportunity for the university to engage with the broader European university rowing community.

“This result bodes well, above all because it testifies to the growth of the group. Thanks also to the collaboration with CUS Milano and Canottieri San Cristoforo, who support us in our training. Rowing is a very popular sport at university level, especially in Anglo-Saxon countries, culminating, of course, in the famous annual Cambridge-Oxford challenge, and it is not uncommon for students who come to Bocconi on exchange to join our group in order to continue their activity and keep fit.” says Enzo Baglieri, professor and head of the our Rowing section.
"I am really happy and proud of this first achievement of our team. Collegiate sports can and should be done in Europe and Italy as well; rowing, with its history and importance in the best universities around the world, is the right place to start." adds the captain Gabriele Bettineschi.

Congratulations to the team for a remarkable performance!
